MLB Hot Lines: Thursday`s best odds

HOU-CIN over 10 @ 1.91

Imagine: A hitter friendly ballpark with near perfect conditions. Two solid hitting teams coming into a duel of two brutal pitchers. Seems like the moons have aligned over Cincinnati’s Great American Ballpark for total bettors tonight.

Current conditions in Cincinnati are cloudy with no winds and it`s not expected to change before the fist pitch. That`s an important fact because in games where the wind is blowing at less than 10 miles per hour, the over/under is 23-9 in Cincinnati. Furthermore, if you keep a really close eye on the weather, the numbers may get even better. When there is a slight breeze blowing south-southwest, the over has cashed in 12 of 13 times.

Houston sends Brandon Backe to the mound to counter the Reds` Eric Milton. Both pitchers have been struggling and they have a combined ERA of over 18 runs in their last three starts.

As well, Cincy and Houston can provide some firepower. The Reds are averaging nearly six runs a game at home. Houston is hitting .292 and has scored 55 runs in its last nine games.

STL -1.5 @ 1.78

Alright, alright, it won`t turn any heads picking the Cardinals to win this game. Simply put, Colorado is just flat out terrible on the road. They have won only five games and are batting under .230 away from Coors Field this year.

They go into St. Louis to play a Cardinals team that is the best in the National League. Jeff Suppan is on the hill - a guy who has never lost in three career starts versus the Rockies. As well, St. Louis likes to come out swinging in a series. They are 20-6 in Game 1 of a series this season.

ATL @ 2.65

The Florida Marlins host the Atlanta Braves tonight, hoping to do something they haven`t done in over two years against Atlanta: win two games in a row. Florida sends Josh Beckett to the mound for the first time in two weeks after the right-hander was out with a blistered finger. The Marlins scored just three runs in Beckett`s last five starts before his injury and Beckett has a 3-7 record in 10 career starts versus his NL East rivals.

Atlanta has won 21 of 29 against the Marlins dating back to last year..

ARI @ 1.63

The San Francisco Giants don`t seem to like each other.

"I think it`s very sad that I haven`t been to dinner with anybody on the team, and it`s June.” Moises Alou told a national publication last week. At outfielder Michael Tucker`s birthday party earlier in the season, just eight players showed up to an event that would have drawn as many as 20 in the past.

The lack of comraderie has been bad news to Bay Area backers. The team has cost supporters almost 13 units this season.

Besides the chemistry, their biggest problem is their lack of pitching. Don`t expect that to change when they send Noah Lowry to the mound in Arizona. The young southpaw is 4-7 this year with a 5.25 ERA.

Shawn Estes gets the ball for the Diamondbacks. The one-time Giant comes into the game pitching well and he should be pumped up for his first meeting this year with his former team. He has 1.54 ERA in his last three starts. The Diamondbacks have only been swept twice this season.
